Hi! I'm Cat and I am a user experience & interface designer.

Throughout my two years working at a satellite telecommunications company, I have gotten to learn a lot about computer networking, software engineering, UI design, UX research, and the process of designing and developing products.

Technology has always been an interest of mine; both of my parents began their careers as software engineers and I always knew that I wanted to study something in the realm of computer science. Getting an informatics degree allowed me to have the flexibility to take art and business classes, in addition to my CS coursework.

Art has always been my passion, ever since I started taking art lessons when I turned five years old. Over the past 20 years, I have explored many different mediums - acrylic paint, watercolors, oil, collaging, ink sketching, embroidery, polymer clay, and many more. The medium that is currently very exciting to me is digital art, made using the iPad app Procreate.

As a product designer, I blend art and technology in a tangible way to solve real problems that people experience every day.

When designing real products for real people, it is important to get to know them and their needs.

While thinking about potential designs or applications, it might be very likely that we are designing for ourselves. In the real world, however, this will not always be the case.

That is why user research is so important. We must take the time to talk to our users and really begin to understand why they think the way they do and how they see the world, especially if it is different from our perspective.
